There is a particularly intense feeling of violation that people experience when they are the victims of residential burglaries. We get great satisfaction from catching these thieves, but get equally frustrated when witnesses or victims don't call us when they see something suspicious. In two cases on Tuesday, people should have called us sooner.
The first crime happened in the southwest section of the City at about 11:00 a.m. The witness saw a newer model black Jeep SUV backed into the victim’s driveway and a suspect nearby. The vehicle left shortly thereafter. About twenty minutes later, the black Jeep was back in the victim’s driveway and this time the witness saw four males in the vehicle. The suspects saw the witness and abruptly left the area. The witness walked to the rear of his neighbor’s residence and discovered the house had been broken into.
The second crime happened in The Colonades subdivision at around 2:30 p.m. The witness who reported the burglary saw a young male standing next to a white crossover style vehicle, which was backed into the victim’s driveway. When the suspect saw the witness, he pulled a television from the back of the vehicle, dropped it on the driveway then got into the vehicle and drove away. However, there were two people who saw suspicious activity earlier. The first person (possibly an intended victim)later said that a young male knocked on her front door and when she answered it, he asked for an unknown female. The other witness rode by the victim’s residence and saw the suspect vehicle and a person partially in the vehicle.
Many people do not call us because they are afraid that they may be wasting our time. Others don't want to get involved or feel like they will be embarrassed. At the very least, anyone can call us anonymously and give us a brief description of Who, What, Where, When, etc.
We signed up for this job to catch bad guys, but we often need something, anything to point us in the right direction. So, if you think you see something suspicious, chances are you are right. Please call.
